Basil and Mozzarella Burger is a great gourmet burger that can easily be made at home. It is packed full of delicious flavors. Be sure to take the time to make the sun-dried tomato mayo! If you have extra mayo it is great on a sandwich or in a wrap.
I personally prefer a charcoal grill because it adds a smokey flavor to the burger. If I can’t use a grill then I will use my indoor grill pan. I find cooking very enjoyable. If you find a recipe that you mostly like the ingredients, use the flavors you like and remove the ones you don’t like. Add other ingredients to amp up the flavor. Never be afraid to make it your own!
Burgers are one of my favorite foods to eat year round. I can almost always go for a good burger. I found this recipe in my Taste of Home Healthy Cooking 2012 Annual Recopies Cookbook.

Tip from Me
You can freeze the extra 1/2 pound of ground beef and use it in the following recipes:
Let's prep!
Buns – 6 |
1/4 cup tomatoes not packed in oil |
1 cup boiling water |
2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce |
1/4 cup fresh basil |
2 teaspoons Italian seasoning |
2 garlic cloves |
1/2 teaspoon pepper |
1/4 teaspoon salt |
1.5 pounds ground beef |
3/4 cup mozzarella cheese |
1 cup mayo |
- Gather all of your ingredients and measuring tools
I find a kitchen scale really helps for recipes like this because I can be sure to get all of the individual burgers the same size and weight for an even cook.
- Make the mayo sauce:
- Boil water and add sun-dried tomatoes then cover for 5 minutes.
- Blend in a food processor then refrigerate:
- sun-dried tomatoes
- 1 cup of mayo
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- Add to a large bowl and mix until just combined:
- 2 teaspoons italian seasoning
- 2 teaspoons worcestershire sauce
- 1/4 cup fresh basil, jullian
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper
- 1.5 pounds of ground beef
- Grate 3/4 cup of mozzarella cheese
- Burger patties:
- Make 12 equal burgers. I like to use a kitchen scale.
- Place 1/8 cup of mozzarella cheese in the center of 6 patties.
- Add the non cheese patties over the top of the cheese patties sealing the cheese in the center.
Let's cook!
- Complete the prep from the prep tab above.
- Grill each patty for about 5 minutes per side depending on how done you like your burger.
- Serve burgers with buns and mayo. Enjoy!
